This catchy tune should be on the playlist at every proper hit party! 30 years ago Matthias Reim (62) stormed the charts with “Damn, I love you”. Today the song is one of the best-selling German hits and is a guarantee of fun at every party. But actually, the successful song shouldn’t be sung by the 64-year-old: He had planned a completely different colleague as a singer!
Jürgen Drews (75) was supposed to provide the voice for today’s cult hit: “It’s true, the title was first offered to me by phone”, he confirmed in an interview with RTL. But Reim spontaneously decided to record the piece he had written with his producer Bernd Dietrich. With this decision, he set a milestone in his music career: The CD went over the counter 2.5 million times worldwide and topped the German music charts for 16 weeks.
1990 Matthias Reim cannot yet guess this success. In general, other thoughts are superficial for him when writing. So he thinks much more about the people he wants to reach later with his music. “There are so many out there who are grief-stricken and have to cope with their lives, who become unemployed, who get sick, who have lovesickness – I write the songs for these people”, the sixfold dad gave in conversation RTL price.
