There is new information on the Madeleine McCann case. On May 3, 2007, the then three-year-old disappeared from an apartment complex in Portugal. Their parents Kate and Gerry McCann had not only tried to look for her daughter with police help, but had also made her child’s disappearance known through TV appearances in order to get new clues from the population. However, their attempts were unsuccessful. The case had gotten so big, however, that it was reopened again in 2019 in a Netflix documentary – only a year later there is now a suspect.
The popular missing person case was discussed this evening, among other things, on the ZDF program “Aktenzeichen XY”. That too Press portal reports that the Braunschweig public prosecutor’s office is currently “investigating a 43-year-old German citizen on suspicion of murder”. The accused is said to have been a criminal sex offender and convicted of child abuse, among other things. He is currently in custody for another crime. The suspect had lived in a house between Lagos and Praia da Luz between 1995 and 2007 – Maddie was last seen in the village.
The German has meanwhile worked in the Algarve, among other things, in gastronomy. However, there are indications that he also financed himself through crimes such as burglary theft in hotel complexes and holiday apartments as well as drug trafficking. With regard to further investigations, the public prosecutor’s office is currently asking for the help of the population.
