The fourth season of Dead Girls Lies Doesn’t Split fans’ opinions! The last season of the popular Netflix production has been available on the streaming platform since June 5. Many fans of the series could hardly wait for this day – all the more shocked were some of the finale, in which the group around Clay, Jessica and Co. suffered a tragic stroke of fate. Many spectators are not at all happy with the end – but actor Dylan Minnette (23) is now defending the exit!
Warning, spoiler warning! If you haven’t seen season four yet, don’t read on!
After the suicide of Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford, 24) and the murder of Bryce Walker (Justin Prentice, 26) the high school students have to cope with another death in their environment: Justin Foley (Brandon Flynn, 26) dies unexpectedly from HIV. Not a satisfactory ending for many loyal fans – but like clay performers Dylan now opposite Entertainment Weekly explained that this had long been the cast’s wish: “I still remember that Brandon and I’ve always hoped that Justin dies. We stood up for it and kept explaining why we think it is right! “ They were certain that this outcome would have the greatest emotional impact on the series: “Of course it is terrible and tragic and we know that people would have wanted it to survive. But I think that’s the end even more impressive! “
However, many viewers criticized not only the surprising death of the “dead girl doesn’t lie” favorite – but especially the depiction of the disease itself: it was presented too sensationally and one-sidedly. “It is disappointing to see that a program that has such an impact on the young audience misrepresents HIV in this way and further increases the stigma.”, the National AIDS Trust complained via Twitter. Production missed the chance to show that people with HIV can lead a full and healthy life.
