The violent death of the African American George Floyd has sparked horror and massive protests not only in the United States since last week, but worldwide. Amira (27) and Oliver Pocher (42) also thought of the dead man in their TV show “Pocher – dangerously honest”, with a minute’s silence that lasted eight minutes and 46 seconds. The model then reported on her personal experiences with the topic of racism.
In an interview with RTL Amira explained after the show that she had been a victim of racially motivated hate even at school. “There was a classmate who just sings chocolate behind me in class”, recalls the Austrian by birth. And the hostility would not have stopped: Even today, insults were repeatedly thrown at her head. “Get out of the country. Get out of there. I’m going to torch you. I’m raping you,” are just a few of the comments that Oli’s wife keeps hearing.
The mother of a son then worried terribly whether these people would really go so far and follow their words with action. “You think: ‘Who is behind it? Is he serious? Is he really at my door?'” – these are the questions that Amira has to ask again and again.
